1. Start with a new File and then create a rectangle and fill it with any color, I’ve filled with blue color:

2. Select Mesh Tool and click on the top of the rectangle to create parts like show below (distance shouldn’t be same, so click on different places to create vertical lines):

3. After Creating all lines, pick Direct Selection Tool  and click on any one of the Top Nodes and then the same node at the bottom by holding shift key. So top and bottom node of same line should be selected, then fill it with Black color:

4. By using this technique, select different nodes and fill them with black, here effect should come like this:

5. Now select any one node from the top and move it towards left or right, like:

6. Now apply the same technique to bottom nodes, like:image

7. Now to give some reality pick any top node and move it towards any direction to make some reality, so this part will depend upon your hold on the nodes and mouse. Use different nodes to make different curves like:
